Abstract

Purpose: This study was conducted to identify the determining factors of leadership life skills of nursing students and to investigate the relationship between self-esteem and leadership life skills.
Methods: A correlational survey design was used. Data was collected from 303 nursing students in D city in Korea. The collected data was analyzed by frequency, percentage, correlational analysis, and multiple regression.
Results: Positive correlations between self-esteem and leadership life skills were identified. Self-esteem, satisfaction levels with personality, satisfaction levels with school, and education experience in leadership were identified as the primary determinants of leadership life skills which explained 42.3% of the total variance of leadership life skills.
Conclusion: It is recommended to give opportunities to nursing students to participate in programs that enhance their self-esteem and leadership life skills. When effective programs to improve leadership life skills are prepared, satisfaction with personality, satisfaction with school and education experience in leadership needs to be considered.
